Alliances
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
Collective-defence alliance; the institutional frame for US-European coordination during regional crises.
Role in conflict
NATO does not have an operational mission in the Iran-Gulf crisis but is the institutional framework within which member-state coordination on intelligence sharing, force posture, and contingency planning happens. NATO partners (Jordan, Gulf states under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative) extend the planning footprint into the region.
