Russia stated Monday that it would not slow its offensive on Ukraine despite upcoming US-brokered talks, though it said it was open to short-term "humanitarian" ceasefires. The Kremlin indicated it could agree to local truces, including one set to start early Tuesday in the southern Ukrainian city of Oleshky.
This ceasefire was brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump following reports of shortages in the Russian-occupied city.
Izvestia reported that a local ceasefire in Alyoshki will test Russia and Ukraine’s ability to reach agreements and compromise. The newspaper stated that this development could open the door to renewed peace talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the US in November.
The Federal Security Service reported that SBU agents were detained for plotting a drone attack on a missile defense facility in Moscow. According to the agency, the suspects were tasked with assembling strike-capable unmanned aerial vehicles retrieved from hidden caches and transporting them to a launch site in the Moscow Region.
