Summary
Trump to convene rare Camp David Cabinet meeting amid rising Iran tensions WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will hold a rare Cabinet meeting at Camp David on Wednesday as negotiations for a peace deal with Iran remain unresolved. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who recently resigned due to her husband's battle with cancer, will also attend the meeting, Fox News confirmed. Over the Memorial Day weekend, Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested the talks were making progress. Rubio said negotiations were ongoing in Qatar and that there was "a lot of talking back and forth going on about specific language in the initial document, so it’ll take a few days." Still, tensions remain high. Iran's Foreign Affairs Ministry on Tuesday accused the U.S. of a "grave violation of the ceasefire" after overnight strikes that U.S. officials described as acts of "self-defense." A White House official told the New York Post that Cabinet members at Camp David will discuss "recent successes of the administration, including economy and small business wins, Task Force to Eliminate Fraud highlights, and foreign policy updates." “The president expressed his desire to make it. He’s either going to make a good deal or no deal," Rubio told reporters. Camp David, the secluded presidential retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains, has long served as a site for high-level diplomacy and national security discussions. Presidents from both parties have used the compound to host foreign leaders, conduct wartime strategy sessions and negotiate major international agreements, including the 1978 Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel brokered by President Jimmy Carter.
