Iran's Revolutionary Guards stated that three oil tankers caught fire on Sunday in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement noted that Iran regularly targets ships transiting without its authorization. Since late February, Tehran has restricted traffic through the waterway, requiring vessels to use routes authorized by the Islamic Republic.

US Central Command reported that US forces disabled a St. Kitts-flagged commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored warnings and attempted to leave the region following a visit to an Iranian port. The command stated that US forces have been enforcing a naval blockade on Iran in and around the Strait of Hormuz for months.
The last confirmed US strike on a cargo vessel occurred nearly a month ago in the Gulf of Oman.
