Senior United Nations officials and delegates told the Security Council that violence and a fragile security situation in and around the disputed Abyei area underscore the importance of strengthening and renewing the UNISFA mandate. They made this warning in the absence of a political solution between Sudan and South Sudan, ahead of a vote on the mission's mandate renewal.
